WHY RAPD?

RAPD gave us the chance to materialize what we have been learning in STR. It’s where the practicality of life meets the idealism of science, where entrepreneurship and research collide. Through it, we’ve learned a lot of life lessons and were able to earn some money as well (win-win situation!).  

IMPRESSIONS

This elective might seem like a handful at first but you’ll learn that it’s actually really fun. There are many activities to get to understand the game of marketing and selling. RAPD is also a reciprocative approach to addressing the many inhibitions we scientists possess. It teaches you how to communicate to people about your product, to talk to the masses about solutions for our country. You also learn to accept mistakes and judgments, and learn to move on from failures. Thus, you get what you give or, as the saying goes, “Kung anong itinanim ay siyang aanihin.” So you have to put in hard work to be able to gain from the experience! It might seem like hard work, but it is work with meaning and fun.

LOTION

Finding a recipe that works is as easy as searching the internet. But looking for the perfect recipe isn’t as easy as it seems: you’re going to have to keep adjusting certain ingredients and testing them. It is like molding clay for hours—even days—until you have mere perfection. Ultimately, given the scant amount of time, we had to learn how to market our product, in all its good qualities and shortcomings. Of course, not everyone liked our product, but we accepted its short-comings. Doing so could be a difficult task for many, but it wasn’t a problem for us because we love our product!

MOST MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES

Maxine had an awesome time in the lab with fellow RAPD-mates and had fun making the RAPD commercial (shoutout to Rosal 2015 woohoo!). 

Luke had an amazing time with all the RAPD-mates in the STR room, and had fun selling products, mainly shouting at passers-by to sample the wares. Those were good times.

Shout-out to Maam Bick! You’re the best, ma’am. Thanks for the great elective : ) 

PERFECTION

RAPD is a great experience! Just make sure you believe in what you are making and the rest will follow. This might be Luxine Lotion’s goodbye, but don’t forget, Perfection Never Ends.
